  4. A native of Wilkes-Barre, I have the original pressing of “Poe” that I bought in 1969; acquired “Of Joy and Sorrow” sometime later. Saw Shenandoah a number of times during my time at Bloomsburg State, 1970-74. (Also saw Carl there several times in the Buoys. Do you remember the 7-encore concert at Bloom, Carl?)

Now a Northern Virginia resident, I’m planning to drive up to Philly on Oct. 27 to see you guys recreate “Poe” live, which I never had the pleasure of seeing while in Pa.

    Can’t wait to see you!

    Joe

  5. Guys, I remember dragging an old pallet or something up against the window outside Tipper’s in Archbald one afternoon so I could stand up on it and peek inside to watch and listen to you rehearse. ‘69 probably? I was twelve, thirteen?

So cool you’re reuniting to do the Edgar Allen Poe event in Philly! Best of luck!

  11. Original native of Wilkes-Barre area, now living in Fredericksburg, VA. (not to far from Richmond the birthplace of Edgar Allen Poe) and graduate of West Side Central Catholic HS. The Prism used to play our high school on a regular basis way back when high school dances still had great live music, and the Glass Prism were the greatest local live band at the time. Nice to see you guys back together again, I hope this leads to more shows. Carl is this gig as a result of the call I gave you many years ago? Anyway if you read this Carl, give me a shout at my email listed. Would like to touch base. Cheers guys and hope to hear you live again real soon.

  12. Wow. I’m speechless. So is Rick apparently, for not telling me about this! Jeez…. Anyway, these guys were my heroes, and I’ll always cherish the fact that I got to play with two of them in my long bass playing career: Rick, in the BBK’s/Eastbound thing, and Lou in Public Enemy. Actually, I kinda got to play “for”, not “with” Tom too. I was signed to his Music Star Agency while I was in the group Entrance. Anyway, best of luck guys, and remember you “heroes” were the reason many of us followed you into the biz. PLEASE find a way to do a local show too!
    Fran

  13. Prism fans. I got to shake hands with Tom, Rick, and Augie Saturday…. WOW!!! I am still on cloud nine. What an honor.
These guys are such a big part of my youger years. Just being in the same room as them. WOW! What a feeling….I cant what to see them perform in Philly…. Get tickets for this event. Trust me its an awesome feeling. You will get to hear them perform after 30 years. Best of all you wil get to shake hands with them after they perform.
    Se you in Philly, Mike

  14. I lived on Bennett St in Kingston right across from the Scanlon Field Gym where Prism/El Caminos played many times. As a kid I used to sit on my front porch listening to the music. Also remember the Prism renting a little cinder block building at Bennett and Mercer Streets to practice in. Brings back a lot of memories of the local music at the time including Prism, Buoys, North American Bear, Ursa Major, Bingos Diesel, Gibraltar, Toyz, Wazoos, Great Bear and many more.

  15. Time is getting closer for your concert. Can’t wait to see and be with you guys again. Like I said before, I was and still am a fan of yours. Rick, remember you giving me your old symbol for my new drum set? On my last comment on your Poe site, I have to correct myself. You did Vanilla Fudge songs but I don’t think you did any Illusion songs. I’ll find that out soon. Just received your On Joy and Sorrow CD. Listening to it right now. Your music is great!!!It will be such an honor, to see you perform again.

I hope they get inspired to do more, as I would certainly love to see them and hear them play again. Great meeting all of you, some blasts from the past, today was a great day!….Martha

  28. This is my reply to Rick’s email.
    Hi Rick,
The bus went well its 5pm Cathy woke me up.
I am searching for the right words to express the wittnessing of this memoralble event, but (happy ) tears keep going in my eyes as they did during the event.. As soon as I calm doing I will be posting something.
    Teary eyed , Mike

  29. Guys, you successfully pulled this one off. This event went over very well judging by the applauses and ovations you got, considering you were idle for 30+ yrs. You must have had some very serious and long practice sessions. Well, it paid off!!! When you first came out on that stage, I could not contain myself. I was very teary-eyed throughout most of the performance. Your selection of songs was awesome and I just can’t explain how magnificent you were. As a former drummer Rick, I thought you never missed a beat and you were exceptional. On the way out to the concert on the bus, I was doing a little DJing playing your Poe CD on a boom box. Well, now that you got this one under your belt, how about doing a gig locally in the near future. You’ve been blessed with so much talent and don’t let it slip away. Again, a very special Thanks for such a great night and hopefully there will be many more!!!

  30. And so it was. There was a wine tasting party in Philadelphia last Saturday…didn’t know that rascal Edgar Allan Poe was a wine expert, but apparently he found a bottle of a rare, late 1960’s vintage in of all places, the German Society’s historic building, and invited us to attend the tasting. So, hearing this, we all gathered there to partake of this rare vintage which we had not tasted for such a long time, and that we wondered if we would ever taste again. The clean bottle, obviously cared for and stored properly, was uncorked and served to us in a tight glass. We found that it tasted just as crisp, and strong, and was as sweet and poignant as we all remembered. So, we all savored that precious wine until the last drop, and when we finished the bottle, and as we left that place in Philadelphia very happy, yet with a certain degree of sadness, we all hoped that Edgar might be able to find another bottle somehow, or somewhere, so that we all might be lucky enough to taste it again.
So our thanks to ol’ Edgar for a wonderful night and for sharing that precious bottle of wine with us at that nice gathering in Philadelphia. We would be remiss, however, if we did not thank all those who worked very hard behind the scenes in the serving of that wine which allowed all of us to turn the clock back, if, for a little while, and go back to a time when that unforgettable wine flowed like water. And so it was.

    Respectfully,
    Bruce Louryk
    Washington, DC

  31. Sunday I wanted to post something but,I was on cloud nine. I could not find the right words. I woke up 5am on monday morning and the same words “like a fine wine that got better with age” would best discribe the Glass Prism performance. Bruce I could not have explained it better. I thank you. Rock on, Mike

  32. Hi guys, sorry I couldn’t make the show, I bet it was great. I don’t carry equipment anymore anyhow so I would be no use to you ha ha. I do hope you play up in this area soon. Tom please have them change Steve’s last name to Bond. Hope to see you guys soon. The original roadie.

    Tim

  33. You gentlemen made a lot of people very happy.
The ride down on the bus was great. Mike Karsnak played
Glass Prism music. Thanks Mike. That really got everybody into the mood. I was truly overwhelmed seeing
and hearing you play. You guys still rock. Mike Soltis
is one hell of an organizer. He has heart. I can’t say
anything negative about that night, except I wish it went on and on. You guys were my heroes, and still are.
The songs are timeless. Loved “Homburg”. Augie is a great vocalist. As well as Rick. Tom was excellent.
And Louie great as always. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. JACK V.

  34. Hey GP fans,

Thank you to those who sent us photos of the guys, they were all great shots! We could use more! Pass the word, if someone can’t send us photos, just email us and we’ll arrange to come to you and scan them. Everyone who gives us photos will be credited in the documentary. We’re off to a great start, keep’em comming.

  35. Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the flood of memories! I really had a great time listening to the music of my youth! I can’t wait till you play again in Scranton. I will be sending pictures to saillevision@hotmail.com Hope I can view
all the other ones people have sent along sometime.
Please let me know how to view them.
    Rock On
    Joanne

  36. An excellent effort after a period of time most wouldn’t even try. You guys sounded great (although a decent PA would have enhanced the sound). Anyway, you guys brought back a lot of memories and thrilled many with your talents….you are always welcome to get together at my bar / bowling center (I’ll make it invite only). Augie lives only 3 miles away and it makes a great excuse to come to the Jersey Shore for a couple of days.

    Thanks for a great night.

  37. band was great, got some nice pix i will be posting soon. can anybody tell me what the name of the new song augie wrote for the concert, or am i somehow mislead on this? supposedly it is another one of poe’s poems. Thanks, jack

  38. I initially posted my comment on an E -mail that the site allows for. I attended the 10/27/07 show in Philly with my pal who used to come over my house 25 years ago and listen to my blaring of The Raven. That was 1982 and my buddy was more interested in pop stuff…Duran, Duran and Flock of Seagulls. Hey parachute pants were in too! But I had the fortune of accessing my father’s album collection which included one purple covered period album with a black bird. I think you get the drift. I asked my dad about it. He told me that the band was from Wilkes- Barre / Scranton. That was nice because I lived In Kingston; not far from either of the two cities. My dad said that Poe’s works were put to music by this band and since I was a literature buff, I got curious. That’s when it happenned. The haunting organ piece that opens The Raven sold me immediately. It was unique, rich in sound and now ageless. After repeatedly playing Raven, it was time to listen to the entire album. There was not one bad track. In fact, if RCA had pushed this thing…I think you know what I am saying. The show on 10/27/07 was beautiful. Vocals were tight and the musicianship was right on. Rich pounded his drums and Louie was extraordinary. Augie and Tom; as I expected came to play and delivered big. I think this show has opened another chapter for the Prism. The Raven is ageless and a musicians soul is ageless as long as there is soul left. Music has a way of changing things. Some things changed that night. A change that many people were waiting for. The Prism changed from a cool band from the late 60’s and early 70’s into a cooler band in 2007. Guys, you can play with the best of them. The vocals are there and the music is still tight. I think you know where I am going. Will it happen or will we be relegated to the past. Your fans are ready, but the question remains…Is The Prism? I truly hope!

    Looking towards the future,

    Leigh

  47. I lived in Archbald during the late 60s. Edgar Allan Poe was a favorite of mine. I remember hearing his poetry set to music on the radio.. it was awesome! Over the years, the sound stayed in my head. I could still sing his poems..today, I decided I had to find the music and the artist of this great music. I went to youtube. I found quite a few. I listened.. nope.. no.. not that one.. then finally.. The Glass Prism.. YESSSSSSSSSSS.. that’s it!! I finally found them after ALL these years! I was in 8th grade when I discovered this music. I had no idea the band was even local. Where can I buy this CD? It wasn’t on Amazon.com. I live in the midwest now. Sorry to have missed the concert!! Thanks, years later, for the great sound!

  48. i would like to bu your music.

    thanks

  49. Hello Everyone!
Just a brief update on the Documentary. We will be wrapping up formal interviews in April and will start the story builing and editing process in May!
On 2/25/08 we went to NYC to interview “The Legend”, Les Paul! Les Paul recorded the Guy’s first lp., Poe Through The Glass Prism! Things are chugging along! Stay tuned!

  50. I’m in Colorado and my PA brother sent me the news of the reunion concert.
For years, as a high schooler, I listened to the El Caminos play at the Glenburn Men’s Club. I thought you all were golden.
You changed your name, started wearing Edwardian suits and wrote music to some of Poe’s most honorable, yet morbid poems after I had left NEPA for S.E. Asia.
No offense, I liked the El Camino’s better, but I do own two of your vinyl lp’s and still play them when I become homesick.
I met Carl several times at Gianetta’s Music when it was on N. Washington near Galucci’s
The Hammond B-3 with Leslie is the ultimate music machine and Carl does it sooooo well.

    Rick M, Colorado.

  51. Hello Everyone!
Here’s whats happening. The documentary is chugging along, we’ve been very busy, we’ve met some wonderful people and heard some great stories!
Some of the highlights of this project were, of course, getting to know Tom, Augie, Rick and Louie! We’ve also have had the rare priviledge of interviewing Les Paul and next week we will be interviewing local radio legend, Harry West! All of the fans we have interviewed were great, there’s no people more friendly than the loyal Prism Fans! It has been a whirlwind! We couldn’t get to everyone to do sit down interviews, but on June 7th at “THE” concert at the Scranton Cultural Center we will be seeking out fans to get thier reactions to the show, the music and the band!
If you have something to share with us, just walk right up to the person with the camera and introduce yourself! See you at the show!

  52. WOW! That was some show the Prism put on last night (6/07) at the Scranton Cultural Center.
This 4 guys were not just good. They were super great. I can not remmeber them sounding better.
Augie, Tom, Rick, and Lou truly got better with time.
They are up there running with the big Dogs.
Gene Guarilia #20, (4 time Boston Cetics champion 59-63) currently playing bass guitar with the http://www.cadillacsband.com. Was very impressed with TGP performance. Coming from Gene that is a super compliment! Gene also ask me if TGP is going to perform again. Tom I guess the ball is in your court now.
    Hope to see you soon.
    Rock on, Mike S

  53. FYI. If anyone one is interested in purchasing additional Glass Prism Tee shirts contact me by email. Use the email address posted on 10/18/2007
    Rock on, Mike S

  54. I have to say the concert on June 7th was great. It was also great to talk to you guys, I haven’t seen Tom or Auggie in almost 40 years. I hope you have another one soon. “The Original Roadie”

    Tim Lynady

PS: The harmony is better than ever!!

  55. What a night! Thanks to all of the fans who stopped by to talk to us on camera for the documentary. We’ll keep you updated on our progress with the documentary. It will be a some months before all is finished, but we hope to plan something “big” for it’s release. Keep checking back here at the GP website or at http://www.postsputnik.com

    Bob Ross
    saillevision@hotmail.com

  56. Another outstanding performance guys!!! Auggie, you almost ran out your vocals when you sang “The Raven” but again you pulled it off. Tom, you were all over the stage and proved yourself to be very talented. Rick, what more can anybody else say how great you are on those drums. Again, I thought you never missed a beat. And also, you blew me away when you sang “People Get Ready”. Lou, your performance was also above and beyond. What an outstanding singer and keyboard player you are and also you almost showed up Tom when you came out for that oncore and did that song (Saturday, Saturday by Elton John) on the guitar. Talk about being flexible, you are Lou. Well guys, when is your next “show”???

  57. FYI there is a youtube of The Glass Prism doing the Raven “live” 6/07

  58. FYI Bad news. The youtube has been taken down.

  59. I can’t believe how great the show was and not one review or one word in the Scranton Times. That was disappointing.

  60. Some stats on the concert…played the first 28 minutes without stopping. total time 2 hours 6 minutes.
    Mike S

  61. Get your Tee shirts at glassprismtee@aol.com

    Rock on, Mike S

  63. This is a cut and paste from Frank’s site. Wriiten by Dave G
I was born in 1962. Unfortunatly I was too young to experience an El Camino’s or early Glass Prism show. In 1976 while studying the works of Poe as a freshman in Pittston Area High School, I was turned on to the Glass Prism. My English teacher brought the Poe album in as a teaching aid, and we listened to it during class. He let me borrow the album so I could tape it on cassette. Over the years I was able to get the Poe & On Joy and Sorrow albums for my collection and listening pleasure, and of course now on CD. Unfortunatly I wasn’t able to attend the Philly show, but because of the reunion on Saturday June 7,08, my wife and I finally got to experience a Glass Prism concert! You were fantastic!!!! There wasn’t another band anywhere that out performed you that nite! It’s great to see musicians get back together because they just love to play music! If you did another concert tomarrow, my wife and I would again be in the front row!!!! Keep on Rock’in!!!! (06-10-2008)

  64. Good Things Come to Those Who Wait! Remember your parents telling you that one?
Well, in this case it’s true!
The Glass Prism documentary is moving along. We are in the editing process right now, and it’s coming together nicely! We had a plan, but like all plans, ours is constantly changing. As we put things together, we get more and more ideas to make this documentary the best it can be. The guys gave all of us their creative best and we feel we owe them ours! We really want this to be unique and not your “run of the mill” VH1 type “rockumentary”.
Bear with us folks, You won’t be disappointed!

    Bob Ross, Saillevision/Post Sputnik

  65. Wow,
It has been over 4 months scince anyone posted here???
To be announced!!! Every third Thursday 8pm edt Alberta or I will be hosting a live chat room. Check back here to see where the chat room will be.
    Rock on Mike S
